Christmas Birds, Part 1

I made a crazy amount of stuff for Christmas. Here's post no. 1, which includes all of the gifts I've already given away or are similar to those of people who probably won't be checking this blog any time soon.  :D

I spent several days basically making enormous messes. My parents were very gracious.

Dinorawr. This one was made for my cousin's very small son!

  The Hat. For Don Pablo!

Le argyle. For Kimberly!

Another Dinorawr. For Zach!

Paperclip earrings. For Kimberly! I did not invent these, even though I have tweaked some of my (not-yet-posted) versions. For the original/a nice tutorial, go here

Altered sweater with felt flowers. For Mom! (I felted two wool sweaters I found at the thrift store by washing them on the hot water cycle in the washing machine and then drying them on high heat.)

L'Etoile du Nord (Star of the North). For Josiah!

Altered notebook. For Zach!

Mr. Mustache. For Chris (obviously)!

Tea tray. For Renee!

birds of a feather have birthdays

Apparently, I didn't take any pictures of the journal I made for Josie. So, I have drawn you a picture in paint, so that, just in case you didn't see it, you can know what it looks like.

I think I should make more. Don't you?

Also, this is what I made for Kimberly for her birthday.

I stole the idea from somewhere and tweaked it, but I can't find the original. So, I send the credit out into the void! Thank you, Void!

twenty-seventh bird

Back to school. Use traditional school materials like number 2 pencils or lined paper notebooks to make something nontraditional.

Chris came up with the concept for this one!
I used colored pencil shavings to make a picture. Chris wanted me to do a person's face, but my skill levels are depleted.

Awwwwwww......

It's so nice!

mother bird

I made my mommy presents for Mother's Day. Here they are!

I also made her a card!

twenty-second bird

It's not easy being green. Work only with green-colored materials today. Try working on a green surface for a real challenge.

I'm guessing the author chose green for the song. Here is the song for you:

Here is proof that I used all greenish materials, other that white glue. Which really doesn't count (although, my completist self considered dyeing the glue green. I resisted the temptation.)

Here is the finished product. It sort of looks like a bad Saint Patrick's Day picture.

eighteenth bird

Ok. The real eighteenth bird is Make some clay and then make something with it that you've never made before, which is a) sort of ridiculous and b) taking me a really long time to complete.
So, while I'm working on that I thought I would keep moving forward. Which, I admit, has the potential to completely slow down my progress. But, whatever.

Write a 10-word love story and illustrate it.

I thought about doing something awesome about God, but illustrating God is sort of tricky. As in, yeah, maybe don't do that unless you have a really good idea. And the really good idea is already taken (and is on the bulletin board at church).
So, I went with my second-favorite love story, which is mine.

Here is the back story: once upon a time I was sitting in Honors Forum drinking my Sprite and waiting for class to start. A classmate walked up with this really tall dude to say hello. He knocked over my soda, ran away to get paper towels, cleaned up the mess, and then ran away to sit on the other side of the room without looking at me. A few weeks later he asked me out to lunch when he crashed my Comp. I class. He didn't remember that I was the lady of the infamous soda, but I remembered that he was the tall dude of small shame.

sixth bird

The second food-related post! This one is much more friendly.

Make something with your breakfast before you eat it.

I call it "Pinwheel on Toast."

Another version.

Toast made more delicious with lime curd, blackberry jam, and cream cheese.
YUM!

fourth bird

Technically, this is day five's challenge, but since day four involves going outside and I got home after dark (and since I didn't find it tremendously appealing today), I'm invoking artistic privileges and swapping the days around.

Work with a collection of objects you have in your home.
I guess I have four main collections: buttons, books, Peanuts paraphernalia, and giraffes.
I may come back to this and experiment with the others, but I today opted for giraffes.

It's meant to be a collage of a giraffe using giraffes. I think I may need more giraffes...
Try squinting.

First, in color.

Sigh. Camera strap in the shot.

Next, in sepia.

Apparently, I've moved pieces around between these first two pictures.

Last, in b&w.

I think maybe the b&w is the best.

Giraffes are wonderful. <3
